Star Anise Arts Cafe is one of those places that feels like it has been there for ever. A short distance from the town centre in Stroud, Gloucestershire, the cafe is tucked away among the buldings of the Painswick Inn. When it gets busy and the weather is warm, the cafe spills out onto the courtyard. Sometimes the place becomes a venue for live music, exhibitions, storytelling and speakers. But more usually, it ebbs and flows with people stopping by for a coffee, friends or colleagues meeting up for lunch, parents with children settling down on the sofa for a couple of hours on a quiet afternoon.

Launched in 2004, the cafe owes a great deal to the hard work and strong ideals of its founders. We are proud of our specialist coffees, healthy delicious food and friendly atmosphere. Our food is made with predominantly local seasonal produce. Where possible we use organic and biodynamic ingredients. A typical meal at Star Anise is packed with goodness, including whole-grains, root vegetables, pulses, tofu, greens (great for the liver!) a rich sauce or salsa, some pickles (or at least a slice of lemon) and loads of attention (love!).
