My ancestors, who originated from the Mediterranean region, where olive trees grow in abundance, used a pure blend of natural, locally sourced, plant ingredients to make their artfully crafted soaps. Their final product was a luxuriously rich soap bar with a creamy lather that leaves your skin moisturised and silky soft. The family recipe has been passed down through the generations and it is, proudly, the same recipe base that is used today by Annaël.
As a child growing up in the 1960’s we only ever used soap and shampoo bars that my maternal grandmother made for our family and friends. Hair conditioner, as we know it today, didn’t exist because there was no need for it as the soap grandma made didn’t contain Triclosan, a substance used in commercial soaps and shampoos which strips the skin and hair follicles of its natural oils.
Our skin, being our largest organ, absorbs whatever we put on it. There are so many toxins that our skin absorbs that we don't really have any control over. It is important, therefore to be aware of the toxins we can control, such as those we all use on a daily basis such as soap and shampoo.
Annaël soaps and candles developed through a strong nostalgic desire to return to the days where only natural, wholesome products are consumed without involving animal testing or cruelty or use of harmful chemicals. As such there is only one product which contain ingredients derived from animals: Honey soap. However, the raw ingredients for this product is obtained from reputable sources where, like us, animal testing and cruelty is unacceptable. We have never knowingly purchased from suppliers who cannot assure us that their ingredients fulfil our prerogatives.
